Loadmaster Master Sgt. Daniel Wassom died April 27, 2014, when a devastating tornado hit his home in Vilonia, Arkansas.
Wassom and his wife both covered their 5- and 7-year-old daughters with their bodies when the tornado hit.
Wassom was killed when his house was destroyed, but his daughters and wife survived.
He is one of 24 airmen honored for heroism in the Air Force's latest Portraits in Courage volume.
Air Force Times told Wassom's story in May.
