Veterans Day has been a federal holiday since 1938, honoring the contributions of American military personnel.
The “Six Triple Eight” was honored Tuesday with the Congressional Gold Medal, following a long-running campaign to recognize their efforts.
The space has long been used as a green room for visiting officials and spokespersons, the Pentagon said.
