Montana crash involved Air Force truck with ‘military projectiles’

BILLINGS, Mont. — Authorities say a crash Sunday night that shut down a highway in southeast Montana for about a day involved three semitrailer trucks, including one carrying “military projectiles.”

Carter County Sheriff Neil Kittelmann says the projectiles were not considered dangerous and no one was hurt in the crash that blocked all lanes of traffic on U.S. 212.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday about 32 miles (51.5 kilometers) from the Wyoming border and the highway reopened Monday night.

Kittelmann tells The Billings Gazette that normal cleanup and removal of damaged vehicles was delayed because of it involved a U.S. Air Force truck and cargo.

Visibility in the area was severely limited by strong winds and blowing snow the time of the wreck.
