False report causes lockdown at Air Force base in Idaho

Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho went into lockdown early Wednesday morning after receiving a false report of shots fired.

The lockdown at the base, about 50 miles southeast of Boise, started at 4 a.m. Wednesday and ended at about 6 a.m. after getting the all clear, according to the Washington Post.

“Lockdown lifted - All Clear- False reports of shots fired,” according to a 7:07 a.m. posting to the base’s official Facebook page. “Thanks Gunfighter family for sticking together & staying vigilant. Please report for normal shifts.”

Officials did not explain what led to the false report of shots fired.

On Tuesday morning the 366th Fighter Wing began conducting a four-day, 24-hour training event “to prepare for real world contingenies,” according to a separate post on the base Facebook page. “Mountain Home residents may hear an increase in noise from the base throughout the week due to the exercise.”
