Former Vandenberg airman charged in fatal crash near California base

LOMPOC, Calif. — A former member of the U.S. Air Force faces charges including involuntary manslaughter in connection with a head-on crash that killed two people a year ago in California.

KEYT-TV reported Friday that a federal indictment also accuses Shaquille Lindsey of Georgia of driving under the combined influence of both alcohol and marijuana, and while using his cell phone. It wasn't immediately known if the 23-year-old has an attorney.

Prosecutors say Lindsey allegedly drove his car into oncoming traffic while going more than 15 miles over the speed limit near Vandenberg Air Force Base in August 2016.

His vehicle crashed head-on with the victim's car, killing the driver and his wife and injuring the couple's adult son.

The former airman could face up to 18 years in prison if convicted.
