The Air Force has selected 818 active-duty officers for promotion to colonel, lieutenant colonel and major, the Air Force Personnel Center said Wednesday.

The 2016C selection board chose 492 lieutenant colonels for promotion to colonel and 109 majors for promotion to O-5, AFPC said. And the 2016D board chose 217 captains for promotion to major.

The colonel selectees included 439 Line of the Air Force officers -- 136 pilots, 37 navigators, 11 air battle managers, 73 non-rated ops officers, and 182 mission support officers -- out of 3,487 eligible, for a selection rate of 12.6 percent. However, among in-the-promotion zone line officers, 386 out of 731 eligible were selected for promotion, resulting in a selection rate of 52.8 percent.

There were also six chaplains, 14 judge advocates general and 33 nurses selected for promotion to colonel.

Among lieutenant colonel selectees, there were 18 chaplains chosen out of 83 eligible, 40 JAGs out of 205 eligible, and 51 nurses out of 306 eligible. The overall selection rate for O-5 was 18.4 percent, and the in-the-zone rate was 56.6 percent.

The major board selected 76 JAGs out of 82 eligible officers, and 141 nurses out of 167 eligible. The overall selection rate was 99.2 percent, and the in-the-zone selection rate was 92.1 percent.
