SAN ANTONIO — Some 14,500 Air Force recruits have completed a program of life-skills training at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland created after a sex scandal led to more than two dozen instructors being convicted of wrongdoing involving trainees.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Airmen's Week is five days of instruction that includes classes on sexual assault prevention, honor-code issues and striking a balance between professional and personal life. The program, which began in March, comes at the end of the basic training cycle.

The newspaper reports the program fosters a dialogue between recruits and their instructors about the various difficult situations they may find themselves in. It's coupled with a revamped basic training graduation ceremony where recruits are presented with coins inscribed with the core values of the Air Force.
