Air Force lab IDs technologies for commercial use

DAYTON, Ohio — A research laboratory at Ohio's largest military base will spend up to $4.1 million to expand its efforts to identify promising technologies that could be turned into commercial products.

An official with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton says the Air Force is seeking help from educational or nonprofit institutions. The Dayton Daily News reports that the lab wants them to help identify, catalog and rate technologies could be used by warfighters and, in some cases, consumers.

The director of the laboratory's small business programs says the goal is to reduce costs, spur innovation and get technologies to the warfighter more quickly.

The U.S. government has pushed federal labs to commercialize more technology to strengthen the industrial base and create jobs.
