Air Force: 1 dead after accident involving utility vehicle

CLOVIS, N.M. — An accident involving a small utility vehicle injured two Cannon Air Force base personnel and one later died.

The 27th Special Operations Wing says the accident occurred Monday on the Melrose Air Force Range about 35 miles west of Clovis and that a service member who was critically injured died Tuesday of head trauma.

The victim's identity was not released immediately.

Maj. Mindy Yu says the accident occurred during routine training and that preliminary information indicates the vehicle rolled over.

The 27th Special Operations Wing's aircraft and personnel perform special operations missions such as insertions and removal of personnel.
