A member of the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron was found dead at his residence on April 23, according to a news release from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.
Senior Airman Michael K. Rafael was discovered by a fellow airman in Knob Noster, Missouri, the news release said. Local police are investigating Rafael's death along with officials from Whiteman Air Force Base.
Autopsy results on Rafael are pending.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Senior Airman Rafael's family, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragedy," Brig. Gen. Glen VanHerck, 509th Bomb Wing commander, said in a statement. "This is a truly difficult time as we mourn the loss of a valued member of our Whiteman family, and we are here standing by to offer whatever support we can to help them through this extremely difficult time."
