BIG SUR, Calif. — Rescue crews have found the body of an off-duty National Guard Airman who was swept into the ocean while fishing north of Big Sur.
Monterey County sheriff's Sgt. Mike Darlington says Khiem Nguyen's body was found Wednesday submerged in the water.
The 24-year-old San Jose resident was fishing with friends when a wave pulled him off the rocks at Soberanes Point on Tuesday.
The U.S. Coast Guard and several other agencies called off their search Tuesday evening after looking for Nguyen by air and boat for several hours.
The man is the second person in less than a month to be swept off the rocks in the area. The other person was rescued.
Local agencies say that rescue was a challenge due to rocky terrain and strong ocean waves.
