Six airmen were convicted of sexual offenses at courts-martial in May, June and July, the Air Force announced this month, bringing the total number of sex crime convictions to 46 since the service first began publishing them a year ago.
The lists are part of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office's ongoing efforts to crack down on sexual assaults after several years of high-profile scandals led to changes in the way the military handles the crime.
The most recent document provided by the Air Force lists:
■ Airman 1st Class Jonathan Clark of Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, convicted May 21 of sexually assaulting a female civilian while she was unconscious in October 2013. He was sentenced to eight months confinement, $1,500 forfeiture of pay for eight months, reduction to E-1 and a bad conduct discharge.
■ Staff Sgt. Jeffery Lewis of F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, convicted June 5 of abusive sexual contact of a male officer after the male officer said he was not interested. He was sentenced to two months' confinement, reduction to E-4 and a bad conduct discharge.
■ Staff Sgt. Frankey Peterman II of Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, convicted June 14 of sexually assaulting a female airman while she was asleep in the passenger seat of the car Peterman was driving in October 2013. He was sentenced to two years confinement, forfeiture of pay and allowances, reduction to E-1 and a dishonorable discharge.
■ Master Sgt. Thomas Fry of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, convicted June 26 of sexual assault and abusive sexual contact of a female airman he had previously supervised. Fry claimed he was intoxicated and thought the victim was his wife. He was sentenced to seven months confinement, reduction to E-4, a reprimand and a bad conduct discharge.
■ Senior Airman Trentlee McClour of Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam, Hawaii, convicted July 3 of abusive sexual contact of a female airman in May 2013. He was found not guilty of rape. He was sentenced to 180 days' confinement, forfeiture of pay and allowances, reduction to E-1 and a bad conduct discharge.
■ Airman Basic Johnny Escobar of Aviano Air Base, Italy, convicted July 11 of indecent language and distributing, viewing and possessing child pornography. Escobar was sentenced to four years confinement, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and a dishonorable discharge.
The Air Force list also includes two airmen found not guilty of the sexual offenses they were charged with but convicted of lesser crimes:
■ Tech. Sgt. Chad Gomes of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, convicted June 6 of five specifications of assault and two specifications of indecent language toward two female airmen in August 2013. He was sentenced to 30 days' confinement, reduction to E-4, forfeiture of $500 and a reprimand.
■ Airman 1st Class Clayton Winspear of Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, convicted June 26 of indecent language and assault consummated by a battery for allegedly grabbing, biting and licking a female airman while "extremely intoxicated" in December 2013. He was sentenced to hard labor without confinement for three months, forfeiture of $550 per month for eight months and reduction to E-1.
