NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Two jets made emergency landings about an hour apart at Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport.
Airport spokeswoman Jessica Wharton tells media outlets that no one was injured in either incident on Tuesday.
The pilot of an Air Force T-38 A training jet diverted to the Newport News airport after the aircraft lost its canopy during takeoff from Joint Base Langley-Eustis. The jet made an emergency landing around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
About an hour later, a Delta Airlines regional jet operated by ExpressJet Airlines made an emergency landing after it was struck by lightning as it approached the airport.
The Air Force says it's investigating the training jet incident.
