S.D. School of Mines secures $4.8M Air Force contract

The school will develop several pilot projects over the next two to three years that will aid airmen serving in conflict zones.

The Rapid City Journal reports the school will focus on three main projects.

It will develop a mobile system to convert waste into biofuels like methane. It will create mobile water-filtration systems that will help airmen convert dirty water into potable water. And it will also work on mobile systems that can convert solar and wind energy into electricity.

Jan Puszynski is the school's vice president for research. Puszynski says this is the largest contract the school has been awarded in recent years.
