Robins Air Force Base will house new battlefield monitoring tool

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. — Georgia lawmakers on Capitol Hill say the Air Force will house its new battlefield information gathering system at Robins Air Force Base in the state’s central region.

The military’s Advanced Battle Management System will be used for surveillance and intelligence gathering to give U.S. commanders real-time battlefield information.

U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and David Perdue and U.S. Rep. Austin Scott said in a news release Wednesday that Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson chose Robins for the new mission. The base is located in Warner Robins about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Macon.

Robins is already home to the Air Force’s JSTARS program, which uses large aircraft for similar intelligence gathering.

Isakson said: “We welcome any and all new missions that the Air Force is willing to bring to Robins.”
