Air Education and Training Command has a new commander.

Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson took command during a ceremony July 21 at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. Roberson replaced Gen. Robin Rand, who is headed to be the commander of Air Force Global Strike Command.

"To Air Education and Training Command members, I am excited to serve alongside you and I promise to give you my best effort every day. I will focus on motivational mission accomplishment, compassionate care of our airmen and families, innovation and leadership," Roberson said at the ceremony, according to an Air Force release.

Roberson was previously the commander of 3rd Air Force and the 17th Expeditionary Air Force at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He is a command pilot with more than 5,100 hours in aircraft such as the F-15E, F-16 and F-22.

The job of commanding AETC previously was a four-star billet, but that changed to a three-star billet when the Air Force decided to raise the command of Global Strike to four stars.
