The members of the Air Force Academy's Class of 2015 "will inherit the mantle of Air Force leadership," Secretary Deborah Lee James said in her commencement address Thursday.

She But James also paused to recognize individual members of the class -- which was nicknamed the Wright Brothers Class -- and their varied accomplishments in science, academics and athletics.

James lauded now-2nd Lt. Kevin Cooper as an example of the kind of airman the Air Force is depending on to develop the latest cyber technology.

"Last month Cadet Cooper led [the academy's] effort in the [National Security Agency's] cyber defense exercise," James said. "This exercise pitted the academies against each other to assess their ability to maintain network services while detecting and responding to network intrusions and compromises. This was an exercise in defense hof the academy, but very very soon, it will be defense of the United States of America, and you will lead us into the future."

James also saluted now-2nd Lt. Stephen Beaton, a biochemist and an Alberta B. and Sidney E. Holaday scholar.

And she praised now-2nd Lt. Kimberly Davis, a star swimmer at the academy who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in the 200meter breaststroke in 2012.
