FB: Warthogs on tour. A-10s move from Germany to England for training.
The 12 A-10 crews that deployed to Europe in February last month have moved on to England from Germany during their training tour across the continent.
The Warthogs, from the 355th Fighter Wing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, landed at Royal Air Force Lakenheath on March 13 to train with U.S. and local aircraft. The jets were previously deployed to Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany, for training.
The A-10s are part of the Air Force's first theater security package deployed to Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
"Working with our NATO allies helps strengthen the bonds between us, and demonstrates the U.S. commitment to them," Senior Master Sgt. Nathan Kerr, the maintenance superintendent of the security package, said in an Air Force release.
The A-10s while at Lakenheath will train on missions such as low altitude tactical navigation, dissimilar air combat maneuvering, helicopter escort and basic surface attack. They will also train with and training with U.K. joint terminal attack controllers.
"We've gotten to see firsthand what conditions and limitations other maintainers work through on a daily basis, and that has given us the experience to be able to do likewise," Kerr said.
Following this deployment, the A-10s will move on to other countries in the region. The A-10s are the first aircraft to deploy as a theater security package. The Air Force will next deploy F-15s in April next month for the next package.
