LOWELL, Mass. — Congressman-elect Seth Moulton is hoping to be assigned to the Armed Services Committee when the Democrat joins the U.S. House in January.

The Iraq war veteran upset nine-term Democratic U.S. Rep. John Tierney in the September primary. He won the 6th District seat by defeating Republican Richard Tisei in the Nov. 4 general election.

Moulton tells the Lowell Sun that Armed Services is his top choice for a committee posting. He says he wrote a letter explaining what he could offer to the panel during a weeklong orientation for freshmen congressmen in Washington last week.

Moulton served four tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine officer.

He’ll be the only new member of the Massachusetts delegation in the new Congress and says he wants to “hit the ground running.”
