Air Force: Airman dies after falling from waterfall in Japan

An airman assigned to the 18th Munitions Squadron has died after falling from Aha Falls, officials from Kadena Air Base, Japan, said Saturday.

The airman, whose name has not been publicly released, was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Naval Hospital Okinawa. 

The airman reportedly fell from Aha Falls, a local waterfall and popular recreation spot on Okinawa. Local divers who witnessed the incident began search efforts immediately and notified the proper authorities, officials said.

Airmen from the 33rd and 31st Rescue Squadrons arrived on the scene around 5 p.m. local time, and the airman was found about 25 minutes later, officials said.
 
The airman’s name is being withheld until family members are notified.
