An airman with the 374th Security Forces Squadron out of Yokota Air Base in Japan was stabbed to death Friday in an apparent domestic dispute.

Master Sgt. Nicholas Vollweiler, 35, of Saylorsburg , Pa., was found unconscious in his off-base residence in in Tachikawa-shi, Tokyo, and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to a news release from the base.

Fuji TV reported that 27-year-old Aria Saito has admitted to stabbing Vollweiler, with whom she was in a relationship, at around 8 p.m. She reportedly told police they had been arguing because he wanted to break up with her.

The television station also reported that friends of the victim subdued Saito and called emergency services.

“Master Sgt. Vollweiler was a truly valued Airmen of Team Yokota and he will be dearly missed by our community,” said Col. Otis Jones, 374th Airlift Wing commander, in the news release. “His family, friends, fellow defenders, and all of the Yokota community are in our prayers during this heartbreaking time.”

The Air Force is working with Japanese National Police to investigate Vollweiler’s death.
