BOURNE, Mass. — A Rhode Island man is facing trespassing charges after authorities say he drove through a checkpoint on a Cape Cod military base before crashing his vehicle into a pole.
Massachusetts State Police say U.S. Air Force security reported around 1:45 a.m. Monday that a vehicle failed to stop at a gate on Joint Base Cape Cod and sped off before crashing into the pole.
Troopers arrested the operator, 31-year-old Harold Lamotte, of Charlestown. Police say Lamotte is facing additional charges because he became combative during the booking process.
Police say they haven't determined a motive for Lamotte's actions but there's no evidence he's a threat to national security.
Lamotte is being held on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
It's unclear whether Lamotte has retained a lawyer.
