MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. — A $1,000 reward is up for grabs for information leading to the arrest of a person who illegally gained access to Maxwell Air Force Base, sparking a lockdown of the installation.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports CrimeStoppers is offering the reward.

Base spokesman Kent Davis says airmen with the 42nd Security Forces Squadron responded to the football field on base about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after a report of suspicious activity. Davis says airmen found the person and shots were fired.

The airmen attempted to apprehend the person but were unable to before the person fled the area and the base, he said.

CrimeStoppers, in a news release, said the suspect fired a gun. No injuries were reported.

The base was placed on lockdown while a search for the suspect ensued. The warning was lifted about 3 a.m.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers at 334-215-7867.
