The April 8 shooting of Lt. Col. William Schroeder, a training squadron commander at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, sent shock waves through the Air Force community there.
By all accounts, Schroeder was a beloved leader at the 342nd Training Squadron. He was so respected that a memorial fund set up to benefit his wife and children has already more than surpassed the $75,000 fundraising goal.
And in an April 15 ceremony, dozens of airmen -- many wearing the red beret of the combat controller -- dropped to the ground to do a series of pushups in honor of Schroeder, as his family watched. The San Antonio Express-News was there, and posted a video to its Facebook page.
