No charges will be filed against an airman who was detained on Oct. 16 for bringing a gun into the hospital at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, a base spokesman said.
The hospital was put on lockdown as a precaution after a report of a suspicious person with a firearm. JBER security personnel and local law enforcement responded and took the airman into custody. Police said the airman never drew the gun — reported to be a 9mm — and that no shots were fired.
A spokesman for the base said law enforcement determined that the airman simply forgot that he was still carrying the firearm when he walked into the hospital. No further investigation is expected, the spokesman said.
