Veteran journalist Richard Sandza has been named managing editor of Air Force Times. He replaces Rebecca Iannotta, who left in December for a position outside the company.
Sandza moves to Air Force Times from a position at Defense News, where he worked as marketing director. Prior to that, he was managing editor of Army Times for five years. All three publications are part of Gannett Government Media.
Before joining Gannett Government Media, Sandza was publisher and owner of the Baltimore Guide Newspapers. He sold the business before joining Gannett Government Media.
Sandza's journalism career started upon graduation from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, which he attended on the GI Bill. Since then he has been an award-winning reporter at several newspapers and served as a national security correspondent at Newsweek magazine, covering the intelligence community and the Pentagon.
After graduation from Fordham University, he received his commission through ROTC and served in the Army as a helicopter pilot.
Sandza lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Elizabeth, an attorney. They have four grown children.
