More advanced military aircraft — including F-35 Lightning II, F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters — are expected to join them.
The Air Force said Monday it plans to bring two F-35A squadrons to the Valdosta base starting in fiscal 2029.
The Air Force says it is still "working through the details" of the new organization, currently dubbed the "492nd Power Projection Wing."
Having a functioning runway again means the base can resume flying its A-10C attack planes and T-38 training jets.
