The shortage of drone pilots and sensor operators is making it harder for the Air Force to balance those airmen’s time between engaging in combat operations and conducting non-combat activities.
The Air Force is expanding the ranks of airmen who can retrain into career enlisted aviator jobs in an effort to close severe manning shortfalls in some of those career fields.
The Air Force Personnel Center on Wednesday said that 131 enlisted airmen applied for the chance to become remotely-piloted aircraft pilots under the next selection board.
