The Air Force is sparing 55 officers in four career fields from having to meet the reduction-in-force board this October.
The Air Force Personnel Center said Thursday that majors in the 2002 year group and in the 21R logistics readiness or 65F financial management career fields are no longer in danger of being RIFed. Captains in the 2007 year group and in the 61B behavioral science/human factors scientist and 61D physicist/nuclear engineer are also exempt from being RIFed.
AFPC said the Air Force has had enough officers retire and separate through voluntary programs to meet its overall end strength goal in those fields. As a result, RIFs are no longer necessary, AFPC said.
As of July, 55 officers in those fields were eligible to meet the RIF board, and 13 were deemed overmanned and were likely to be cut.
