George G. is a Vietnam War veteran who proudly served as an aviation mechanic, door gunner, E-5 specialist crew chief, and SGT of the flight platoon in the Army's 1st and 9th, 1st Calvary Division. After Vietnam, George joined the National Guard and, after many years of inactive military and many corporate jobs, decided he wanted to give back to the community and "reenlisted" for the Virginia Defense Force – Virginia's Militia! George's military career has been very active and physically demanding; as a result, he suffers from a certain amount of pain related to his training and deployment. He's found relief through a variety of practices, and for over a year now that has included standing and working at a VARIDESK.

"The aches and pains of active duty are as hard on the body as people think it is," said George. "[During Vietnam] we didn't have the strict Physical Training requirements they do now, so we had to take it upon ourselves to be healthy. It was survival of the fittest." Due in part to heavy lifting and numerous pulled muscles, George has suffered for many years with chronic pain and arthritis. Luckily, he is able to get checkups with the VA every six months to help manage the pain, but in his day-to-day life George has turned to VARIDESK to find relief for his back and joints.

George knows he's not alone in his pain, noting "I see a lot of people in the VA who have chronic pain, many of them far worse than I am." In fact, one in seven veterans are currently taking medication to manage pain stemming from their time in the service 1. Sit-stand desks like VARIDESK provide a natural, non-medicinal way to help alleviate pain 2 during work hours.

Last year, George underwent a full replacement of his right hip. During recovery, his doctor had some specific healing tips for him, and one of the best tips was to cut down on sitting time. While he still works to stay in shape and take care of himself, George spends much more time at a desk than he used to. So, he needed a solution that would allow him to do his job while also reducing his sitting time, healing his new hip, and protecting his overall health. That's when George decided to ask his boss for a VARIDESK. One week later, George was standing for at least 15 minutes every hour and quickly beginning to feel relief from his chronic pain.

"Knowing what I know now, I don't think I would have been in as much pain as I am today if I had started using my VARIDESK 20 years ago. It really keeps lower back pain from becoming chronic back pain. I would recommend this to anyone suffering from muscular or skeletal pain."
