U.S. Southern Command has established Joint Task Force-Haiti to conduct U.S. military operations in support of the USAID-led foreign disaster assistance mission.
The exercise involved more than 150 personnel and eight F-16 Fighting Falcons assigned to the 555th Fighter Squadron based out of Aviano Air Base in Italy.
The Reagan carrier strike group will “operate and train alongside regional and coalition partners” and provide airpower to assist U.S. and coalition forces while the U.S. withdraws troops from Afghanistan.
The service secretaries have been tasked with identifying deployable ships, mobile units or other duties where COVID-19 restrictions limit the ability for service members to take leave.
The Reagan will move from the Asia-Pacific region to the Middle East, and is expected to remain in U.S. Central Command’s region for up to four months, The Wall Street Journal reports.
