Eielson AFB housing provider rejects borough tax deal

The Fairbanks North Star Borough offered a substantial discount off the $1.8 million property tax bill. But Corvias Military Living says the proposed $580,000 payment in lieu of taxes would negatively affect service members and their families.

Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins tells the Daily News-Miner that he believes the deal is fair. The borough has had a similar deal with privatized housing on Fort Wainwright since 2009.

Corvias spokesman Mark Nettles says the company is looking for a solution with the Air Force and others.
