The deaths of Kraines and a combat controller in a separate incident prompted the Air Force to halt parachuting, diving and mountaineering training and operations for several months.
AFSOC suspended those operations last December as it investigated the deaths of pararescueman Tech. Sgt. Peter Kraines and combat controller Staff Sgt. Cole Condiff.
Tech. Sgt. Peter Kraines died in October from injuries sustained while practicing mountain rescues in Idaho, and Staff Sgt. Cole Condiff was lost in the Gulf of Mexico in November after a parachute mishap.
