The current political climate leads to extreme views, the official said, some of which gain footing among military and veteran communities.
The rules require continued extremism training for troops and offer more precise guidance for how commanders should address extremism in their units.
The lack of communication means service members could violate rules they don’t know exist and portray the DOD as politically partisan.
