The Air Force said data gathered in this operational prototype test will help it further develop hypersonic capabilities such as ARRW and HACM.
It's the first known time the country has been able to intercept one of Moscow’s most modern missiles.
Secretary Frank Kendall confirmed this month's ARRW hypersonic test wasn't successful, and said the service is more committed to another weapon.
The Air Force said in a release that "several" objectives were met, but refused to detail further the results of the test.
