The members of the First Scouts unit of the Alaska National Guard rescued the crew of a Navy plane shot down over the Bering Strait in 1955.
The pararescuemen put their own lives on the line time and again to save their Afghan partners during the 2019 battles.
Master Sgt. John Grimesey will also receive a Bronze Star with Valor device for his actions during a separate battle in Afghanistan in 2017.
“The most lethal part of any gunship ... is the crew," AFSOC commander Lt. Gen. Jim Slife said.
