Tennessee Guard leader stepping down after 4 years

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The head of the Tennessee State Guard is turning over command and retiring from the state Military Department.

Brig. Gen. Lyndon Craig Johnson of Manchester has nearly 37 years of service. He is relinquishing command of the state Guard to Brig. Gen. Juan R. Santiago of Memphis.

Santiago has served in the military for more than 30 years, in the Air Force, Air Force Reserves and the Tennessee State Guard.

Johnson has been in the post for more than four years. He began his military career in 1983 enlisting as a combat engineer and finishing his National Guard career in 2015, according to a news release from the National Guard.

Johnson has been a circuit judge in the 14th Judicial Circuit since 1998.

The Tennessee Guard is a volunteer arm of the Military Department.
