LAS VEGAS — Tears flowed as a 32-year-old Air Force sergeant who had been treated for post-traumatic stress was sentenced to 10 years to 25 years in Nevada state prison for the death of his infant son.

Andrew Leach sobbed during sentencing Tuesday following his guilty pleas in January to second-degree murder and felony child abuse.

Prosecutor Dina Rinetti and defense attorney Amy Feliciano said everyone appearing before Clark County District Court Judge Carolyn Ellsworth called the death of 3-month-old Aiden Leach in February 2014 a tragedy.

Andrew Leach initially told investigators the boy fell from his arms, and that he shook the child to try to revive him.

Aiden died two weeks later.

Leach was a staff sergeant and member of the 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base. He separated from the Air Force on April 6 as a staff sergeant, according to the Air Force Personnel Center.
