Kyle Young, 17, is completing his senior year at Owasso High School before joining the U.S. Air Force and becoming a career airman, said the Owasso Reporter.

First, Young will be completing a service project to earn the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout.

"I joined Troop 99 when I was almost 12 years old, and I have been involved ever since," Young told the Reporter. "I'm doing this project to learn project management skills and to help out in the community."

Young also wants to show his appreciation for the men and women in the military, and has dedicated his service project to doing just that.

Young is folding up 1,500 pocket-sized flags with attached handwritten personalized messages he is going to send to soldiers stationed overseas, said the Reporter.

"I have tremendous respect for the sacrifice that our soldiers give every day, and I plan on serving in the United States Air Force," Young said. "I saw this as a small way of giving back to those men and women right now."

"This shows that we do appreciate everything that our military men and women do," he said. "It also gives people, young and old, of Owasso the opportunity to give back to their country."
