A civilian contractor pilot is receiving medical treatment for minor injuries after his aircraft crashed Thursday near Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.

The contractor, flying an A-4 Skyhawk, was supporting 57th Wing operations when he crashed on public land adjacent to the base at approximately 7:40 a.m., Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said in a release. The pilot ejected safely and is receiving medical care at Mike O'Callaghan Federal Medical Center. No one on the ground was injured from the crash, Stefanek said.

"At this time, the crash is contained and the aircraft poses no threat to the community or natural resources in the surrounding area," Stefanek said.

It is not clear if the aircraft was conducting an exercise with Nellis aircraft at the time of the incident.

Stefanek said emergency services responded to the scene. Local reports say the Clark County Fire Department first reported the aircraft crash.

Air Force Times will update this story as more information becomes available.
