Brig. Gen. Brian Kelly, the Air Force's director of military force management policy, will be the next head of the Air Force Personnel Center, the Pentagon announced Monday.

Kelly was selected to receive his second star in February 2016. He will replace Maj. Gen. Margaret Poore, who has commanded AFPC since August 2013 and is scheduled to officially retire Oct. 1.

AFPC said the change of command ceremony is tentatively scheduled for late June.

Kelly has played a major role in the Air Force's significant personnel changes over the last three years. He became the Air Force's director of force management policy in February 2014, as the service was launching a massive, rapid downsizing that cut 19,833 airmen that fiscal year. Of those cuts, about 31 percent were involuntary and 69 percent were voluntary.

In October 2014, he became director of military force management policy and helped steer the rollout of the most significant overhaul of the enlisted evaluation and promotion system in years.

And since 2015, Kelly has been involved in the Air Force's efforts to rebuild undermanned career fields — particularly jobs such as maintenance, cyber, nuclear and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance — through increased recruitment and a broad swath of monetary and non-monetary incentive programs.
