GLENDALE, Ariz. — The first Australian F-35A Joint Strike Fighter has arrived at a U.S. Air Force base in Arizona for training.

The aircraft arrived Thursday, and Luke Air Force Base officials say Australian personnel will train on the new aircraft at Luke alongside U.S. personnel.

Australia announced last April that it increased its order for F-35s by 58 to 72 to be fully operational by 2023. The F-35 was developed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co.

Other countries that will participate in F-35A training at Luke include Turkey, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands Japan, Korea and Israel.

Luke is a major U.S. fighter pilot training base. It's located in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale.
