6 arrested at Beale AFB during drone protest

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Six people were arrested at a Northern California air force base in protest of people killed by government drones.

Protest organizers said six men and women were arrested during an Ash Wednesday service at the gate of Beale Air Force Base.

Participants were arrested for trespassing onto federal land and taken into custody by military police as they spread ashes memorializing those killed by U.S. drones overseas.

Beale is home of the RQ-4 Global Hawk, high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft system that provides intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance worldwide.

The base has been the site of numerous protests opposing drones, with dozens of people arrested over the years.

The service Wednesday also involved songs, prayers, scripture, and a remembrance for those killed by drones.
