For the first time, some pararescuemen could get critical skills retention bonuses of up to $125,000 if they agree to stay in the Air Force.

Master sergeants, senior master sergeants and chief master sergeants in the PJ career field, with between 19 and 28 years of service, could be eligible for the bonus, the Air Force Personnel Center said Sept. 11. They could apply for a contract to stay on an additional two to five years.

Depending on their length of service and how long they decide to remain in the Air Force, the PJs could get bonuses of between $18,000 and $125,000. Their bonuses could be paid in one lump sum up front, or they could get half upon signing the contract and the rest in equal annual installments.

Some pararescuemen who are approved for a retention bonus could have their high year of tenure adjusted, if required — up to 25 years for master sergeants, and up to 28 years for senior master sergeants.
