Army National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos went to Sacramento, California, on Saturday to visit his friend, fellow hometown hero and Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, who was seriously wounded after being stabbed in Midtown Sacramento early Thursday morning.

Skarlatos had recently been in Roseburg, Oregon, offering support for those who were affected by the Umpqua Community College shooting, where he was at one point registered to take classes.

Skarlatos was with Stone and Anthony Sadler, when the three thwarted a terrorist attack on a high-speed train in Paris in August.

Sacramento police said two or three Asian male suspects assaulted Stone late Wednesday night. They immediately fled the scene in a 2009-2012 dark gray or black Toyota Camry. Police believe the video shows the suspects getting into the car and fleeing the scene.

Stone was out with friends at an area club when a physical altercation happened just after midnight near 21st and K streets, which led to the stabbing.

Police said this was not a random act but believed to be related to a night club incident.

The Air Force has created an email address so the public can send well wishes to Spencer Stone as he continues to recover at UC Davis Medical Center after a two hours of surgery, said Dr. J. Douglas Kirk, chief medical officer at the medical center.

Well-wishers can send messages to Stone at airmanstone@us.af.mil.
