Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas is locked down after a reported shooting at its front gate on Vandenberg Drive.

According to a statement posted online by the base, an "active threat" occurred at the gate at about 9:15 a.m. Central Standard Time on Monday. Two people have been taken to a local hospital, the release said, and "the base's gates are closed to inbound and outbound traffic until further notice."

The base said on its Facebook page: "All personnel and visitors are advised to stay away from the main gate area until further notice."

The local news station KTHV reported that Jacksonville, Arkansas, Police Chief Kenny Boyd said shots were fired at the gate. Little Rock Air Force Base would not confirm those reports. The Jacksonville Police Department could not immediately confirm that report.

The base said first responders are on the scene and coordinating with Jacksonville police and the Air Force's Office of Special Investigation.

"The safety of base members and their families are of base leaders' utmost concern," the statement said.
