Police believe a 21-year-old active duty airman from Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., shot two Wal-Mart employees early Tuesday morning before killing himself, a Grand Forks Police Department news release says.

Marcell Willis has been named as the alleged shooter, the news release says.

Willis was a senior airman who began active duty in July 2012, said Mike Dickerson, a spokesman for the Air Force Personnel Center. Willis had been stationed at Grand Forks since February 2013. His specialty was materiel management.

After 1 a.m. Tuesday, Willis allegedly entered a Wal-Mart in Grand Forks and shot two store employees, wounding one and killing the other, the news release says. He allegedly shot at another employee but missed.

The incident ended when Willis died of an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," the news release says. A handgun was found near his body. After being treated at the scene, Willis was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"At this time, there does not appear to be an apparent link connecting Marcell Willis to the victims or to that particular store location," the news release says.

Police expect to release the names on Wednesday of the two Wal-Mart employees who were shot on Wednesday.

"We would encourage anyone with information regarding this incident, or any of the people involved, to contact the Grand Forks Police Department," the news release says. "We would especially encourage anyone who was in the store at the time of the incident who has not yet spoken to an investigator to call us."
