'Voice' winner Sundance Head plans tour of 10 Air Force bases

A recent winner of NBC's singing competition "The Voice" will launch a tour of 10 Air Force Bases later this month, the service said a Monday news release.

Sundance Head, who put two songs atop the U.S. iTunes charts during Season 11 of "The Voice" late last year, will begin the tour June 30 with a free show at California's Beale Air Force Base, per the release. Dates will be worked around the singer's touring schedule, an Air Force Services Activity official said in the release.

"Mostly, I just really want to meet our Airmen and shake their hands and thank them for everything that they’ve done for America," said the singer, who was a semifinalist on "American Idol" in 2007, nine years before his "Voice" win. "That’s the most important thing to me. It’s not about me — I understand that, and I want them to know that, too."

Other shows are set for Vandenberg (July 3) and Edwards (July 4) Air Force bases in California; Hill AFB, Utah (Aug. 24); Mountain Home AFB, Idaho (Aug. 25); Malmstrom AFB, Montana (Aug. 27); Grand Forks (Sept. 21) and Minot (Sept. 22) Air Force bases in North Dakota; F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming (Sept. 24); and Altus AFB, Oklahoma, Oct. 5.



Head tours with a three-piece band and plays what he calls "soul country," a genre labeled by his wife, Misty, according to the Air Force release.

"We just play real music with real instruments," he said. "We don’t have anything looped, don’t have anything tracked. We just want to come play real music for a bunch of really amazing people."
