HAMPTON, Va. — Air Force investigators on Wednesday said they're unable to determine what caused a fighter jet to crash in rural Nevada in October.

The Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Va., released its findings.

The F-15C Eagle from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., crashed after the plane went into a spin, according to the board’s report. The report said the pilot attempted an aggressive, yet unsuccessful dive recovery.

The pilot safely ejected seconds before the aircraft crashed about 85 miles north-northwest of Nellis, in Lincoln County. The pilot suffered minor injuries.

The aircraft was destroyed and the loss is valued at about $32 million.

The jet and pilot are assigned to the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron.
