New SRB list expected in April

The Air Force expects to update its list of which career fields rate a re-enlistment bonus in early April, said service spokesman Capt. Matthew Stines III.

All of the 78 Air Force Specialty Codes on the list released in October still rate a re-enlistment bonus, Stines said in an email.

In the first quarter of fiscal 2012, the Air Force spent $31 million on re-enlistment bonuses, or about 25 percent of the money it has budgeted this year for new bonuses, service spokeswoman Maj. Mary Danner-Jones said.

The Air Force’s 2012 budget allocates $123 million for new bonuses, Danner-Jones said in an email. Another $109 million is budgeted for anniversary payments to airmen who have already re-enlisted.

The selective re-enlistment bonuses, or SRBs, range up to $90,000 based on several factors.

The Air Force could not provide figures on how much money has been paid per AFSC. Career fields in great demand typically rate higher bonus levels.

“We don’t budget or allot SRB money by AFSC,” Danner-Jones said. “Once the SRB list is announced, all those who are eligible to receive the SRB do so until the SRB list is reviewed and adjusted.”
